The lot features a fabulous set of circa 1870-1880s Northern Plains beaded Indian hide moccasins with hard parfleche soles attributed to the Sioux from an ex-Cowan’s sale. The moccasins show Indian tanned Buffalo / Bison hide that is sinew sewn and shows beadwork done in period correct glass trade seed beads with a Buffalo / Bison track geometric design. The beads show colors of greasy yellow, cobalt, red white heart, light green, chalk white, black. The ankle has some trade clothe sewn on, and the tops show original tongues and some remnants of ties. The soles are parfleche rawhide hard which are sinew sewn and have a fantastic deep foot worn patina. There is very small bead loss which nicely shows the sinew threads. The mocassins are well kept overall with no major damages. Provenance: From an ex-Cowan’s Auction where it was found to be an authentic example of 19th Century Northern Plains Moccasins in September 2020. Measures 10.5"L x 4"W x -3.5"H.*
