The lot features a circa 1888 copyrighted Bull Durham A Dog'on' Good Tobacco mercantile countertop advertising sign. The sign is from Blackwell's Durham Co-Operative Tobacco Co. Duraham, North Carolina and is copyrighted 1888, created by Major, Knapp & Co. 56 Park Place, N.Y., as is marked on the back. It shows an original hard paper advertising cutout for W.T. Blackwell & Co.'s Bull Durham Tobacco featuring two dogs with tobacco pipes atop a package of tobacco, the backside with "An Open Letter" attestign to the quality of the product. The back shows fold outs to allow for this to be displayed on a counter top. One of the dog's heads is missing, but overall this is a very rare and scarcely seen paper advertisement from the 19th-century. Measures 14-inch by 10-inch.
