The lot features a massive beaded blanket strip on trade blanket from circa the late-1800's to early-1900 from the Blackfeet Niitsitapi of Canada from a Jackson, Wyoming collection. The beaded strip is done on thick muslin trade clothe with Indian tanned hide trim fringes. The blanket strip is massive showing a wide 8.25-inches across at its widest. The beadwork is all old glass trade beads showing a classic Blackfeet / Blackfoot background in light padre blue with geometric pattern in cobalt, chalk white, semi-tranparent red, semi-transparent orange. At the scenter of each round medallion shows Indian tanned hide ties holding ermine hide tube drops with twisted Indian hide fringes holding wound glass old pony beads in cobalt and white with soldi brass old trade beads as well and old solid brass hawk trade bells. Provenance: Noted by the previous owner as being collected from the Canadian Blackfoot and packed away in an old truck for many years, only brought out for special occasions; a private Native American beadwork collection in Jackson, Wyoming. The beaded blanket strip on its own measures 50-inches long, the round medallions are 8.25-inches diameter and overall with the ermines the strip is 19-inches. The blanket is very large and has been folded up and put on a custom maple wood craftsman blanket wall display. As it is photographed the piece measures 66-inches wide by 40-inches tall, the blanket is much larger than this in total. Very well kept.
