Featured in this lot is this Achumawi Indian polychrome basket circa 1890 to 1910. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bear grass and willow construction that shows a very intense tight weave with triangular geometric patterns naturally dyed into the weave with stepped decorations and bands of design; the decorations being visible on both sides, inside and out, is referred to as full twist overlay and makes these baskets highly desirable. The Achumawi people are a Native American tribe from the northeastern part of California, primarily around the Pit River region. They are known for their distinctive and intricate basket weaving, which has been an essential part of their culture for thousands of years. Achumawi baskets are highly regarded for their craftsmanship, functionality, and artistic designs. The condition of this basket is preserved with some wear to the top rim of the basket but otherwise shows a preserved condition. The measurements of this basket is 20-inch diameter by 11-inches high. The collective weight of this basket is 2lb 4oz.
