This is an amazing circa 1890-1900's Blackfeet bowcase and quiver miniature set from a private Montana collection. The bow case and quiver set is comprised of Indian brain-tanned buckskin hide that is sinew sewn and finished with mineral pigment clay paints with pictorial patterns. The piece shows an old tag which is marked, "Blackfeet / Brain tan Deer Sinew Sewn Clay Paint", an old collection or museum tag. The bow scabbard and arrow quiver set shows a Buffalo / Bison head, Pony Tracks / Horse Tracks / Buffalo Tracks, War Shield with crossed Lance / Spears or Arrows, kill marks or hashes, all done in mineral pigment old clay paints with colors of red and green. The piece also has a lance spear or arrow miniature with forged metal end, sinew wrapping and feathers with red and blue paint, likely a later addition. The front shows Indian tanned hide fringes and straps along with small dew claws. Miniature 19th-century bow cases are exceedingly rare for reference see the Sioux Miniature Bow Case and Quiver Set of a similar size which sold in Heritage Auctions 2006 sale for $20,315. Overall the piece measures 11-inches by 13-inches.
