Featured in this lot is this Montana Crow porcupine hair roach circa 1900 to 1930's. The piece is crafted from porcupine hair, which has the tips dyed with yellow ocher mineral pigment paint, along with the base being made of braided wool or knitted wool. These headdress war bonnet roaches would have been worn across the top of the warrior’s head for battle or a special ceremony. The condition of this Roach is good and well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a good overall condition. The measurements of this roach is 18 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses.
This particular roach was featured in Cowan's Auctions according to the tags 142 & 996.
