Featured in this lot is this Tlingit lidded geometric embroidered basket circa 1910. The basket features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bear grass construction that shows natural dyes of geometric patterns embroidered into the side walling in triangles. The Coast Salish people, particularly the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian tribes, are renowned for their basket weaving traditions in the Pacific Northwest. These tribes are known for their intricate and beautifully crafted baskets, often made from materials like cedar bark, spruce root, and various grasses. Tlingit baskets are particularly famous for their "false embroidery" technique, where dyed grasses are woven into the basket, creating patterns that appear embroidered. The condition of this lidded Tlingit basket is well preserved with some slight wear to the weave of the basket but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this basket is 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" x 6 1/2". The collective weight of this basket is 14oz.
