This is an original Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1952) photogravure on Japanese vellum titled, "Shell Ornaments - Quinault" dated 1912. The piece is marked in the artwork, "Shell Ornaments - Quinault / From Copyright Photograph 1912 by E.S. Curtis". Edward Sherriff Curtis was an American photographer and ethnologist whose work focused on the American West and on Native American people. The famous image shows a stunning Quinault woman adorned on her head and breast with stunning dentalium shell ornaments in outstanding detail. The piece is professionally framed by The Montgomery House Frame Shop & Gallery showing a sleek hardwood with fine mission pattern inlaid wood border in the matting. The visible art area measures 7 7/8-inches by 5.5-inches and the frame is 16.75-inches 13.75-inches by 1.25-inches thick. This is a highly desirable piece with another similar Quinault Femail with shell ornaments 1912 by E.S. Curtis sold at Santa Fe Art Auction in November 2022 for $2,750 (w/ bp).
