Featured in this lot is this woven tooled leather creel collection of three circa 1930 to 1950's. There are three creels in this collection with similar design and decoration. These creels resemble the style and looks of two major creel makers, W.H. McMonies and George Lawrence Company, but are unmarked. They all show split willow weaving to the basketry and are adorned with weathered leather with deep brown coloraiton and shows tooled decoration to the top and the face of the creels with the large compartment showing a hole in the top of the lid. All three show shoulder straps for carrying and all three are intact. The condition of this collection of creels is well preserved with some patina to the split willow weave fo the basket and to the leather adorning the frame but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of these creels ranges from 10 1/4" x 15 1/2" x 7 1/4" to 9 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 8 3/4". The collective weight of this collection of creels is 8lb.
Provenance: From a prominent ex-Bozeman private collection who purchased the majority of his collection from Cowan's, Skinner, Bonhams, Morphy's, Sotheby's, March in Montana, North American Auction and other well revered auction houses.
