The lot features a circa 1930-1940’s Navajo Ganado Eye Dazzler handwoven wool rug with nice large size from a private-Montana collection. The rug exhibits some natural hand-spun wools with natural and aniline dyes showing a fine tight weave having a stunning Ganado red background with dazzling stepped diamonds in whole, half and quarters framing the entire rug in colors of white / cream, grey, and black. The Ganado pattern of weaving was established by Lorenzo Hubbell in the late-1800’s and was located southwest of Crystal in the geographical center of the Navajo Reservation. The Ganado motif’s generally consists of one or more stepped diamonds or stepped and embellished triangles with a dominating “Ganado red” background with colors of grey, ivory, black and red. This is a prime example of an early Ganado with an Eye-Dazzler finely detailed variation. The rug is well kept with a nice tight weave having various visible lazy lines, very little loss to the weave, a small hole that is repairable and some slight edge wear, along with some slight bleeding from red to white, otherwise a truly stunning example. Measures 70.5-inches by 50-inches.
