The lot features a fantastic circa 1930’s Navajo Ganado pattern regional weaving with beautiful ex-Hindman. This stunning Trading post era rug is comprised of handspun wool woven in colors of red, brown, cream, gray, orange, purple and blue. The field shows a cream / white background with two stepped diamonds having hooked ends showing four further stepped diamonds on the corners of the field and two half diamonds at the center. Next the rug has a large border with six half stepped and hooked diamonds that is further accented by a rich red border having all four of the fringes corners. The rug shows a fine weave and various lazy lines. Located southwest of Crystal in the geographical center of the Navajo Reservation the Ganado style of weaving was established by Lorenzo Hubbell in late 1800. The motif generally consists of one or more-stepped diamonds or stepped and embellished triangles. The rug is overall well kept with a nice tight weave showing no major holes or loss to thread, there is some slight soiling and there is a small section of repair on the red border. Provenance: Found to be an authentic Navajo example by the experts at Freeman’s Hindman. Measures 70-inches by 45-inches.
