The lot features a fantastic, large Plateau beaded flat bag signed by Confederated Salish (Flathead), Tina Crowe (1893-1980) from Northwestern Montana. The bag has been professionaly framed for display and was collected in circa 1960-1970's in Montana from the artist Tina Crowe and is signed on the shoulder strap as such. The bag consists of thick Indian tanned Rocky Mountain Elk hide completely covered in fine glass trade seed bead beadwork showing a geometric and floral pattern. The bag is fancy beaded around the edges and shows a thick long shoulder strap folded at the top. The bag has wonderful rich colors and fine details. The bag was said to have won an Indian Fair in the 1960's by Tine Crowe. The frame measures overall 24.5-inches by 22-inches by 2 3/8-inches thick. The bag appears to measure 17-inches by 14.5-inches. Native people in the Columbia River Plateau region (eastern Oregon / Washington, northern Idaho and western Montana) were highly talented with beadwork, making bags and purses such as this for personal use and sale.
