For sale in this lot is an a fantastic Southwestern Native Indian artifact, in the form of a Casas Grande Polychrome Effigy Jar. The jar represents a human figure, cradling a baby, modeled in high relief, and painted in deep red, and black against a tan slip. The paint work shows linear, and stepped geometric designs. The jar originates from the from the Casas Grande prehistoric archeological site - otherwise known as Paquime, in the Northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, and crafted circa 1250 AD, during the height of the Paquime commerce. The jar shows excellent condition, with a finish that has stood the test of time. The jar measures 6 3/4" tall, and approximately 6 1/2" wide. This exact piece was found to be an authentic original dating to the Pre-Columbian era by the experts at Heritage Auction Company and was sold in their September sale in 2011.
