In this lot, you have the opportunity to bid on a fine Colt 1849 .31 caliber pocket revolver. The revolver comes in its original walnut case, lined with crushed blue velvet. The case is compartmentalized to fit all of the necessary accessories for the revolver, including; a cut out to correctly fit the 4" barreled revolver, a copper powder flask showing embossed eagles on each side, a two-cavity brass bullet mold, marked "COLTS PATENT, and a compartment to hold bullets and a tin of percussion caps. The bullets included in the box are presumed to be cast from the included bullet mold, and the cap tin is marked "ELEY BROTHERS MANFACTURERS. LONDON - 100 METAL LINED CAPS - made expressly for COLT'S PT. Belt and Pocket PISTOLS". This revolver was manufactured during the Pre-Civil War era of the Great California Gold Rush in 1853. This model was popular with an array of frontier individuals, including; Civil War soldiers seeking a small "last ditch" personal weapon, urban ladies and gentleman who wanted the finest firearm available for personal protection and travelers who needed easy concealment. The revolver shows correct, and sharp markings, reading; "ADRESS SAM'L COLT - NEW YORK CITY." in two lines on the top of the barrel, and "COLT'S PATENT" on the left side of the frame. Additionally, the handgun shows all matching serial numbers "71010" on the butt, trigger guard, frame, barrel, cylinder, and the frame wedge (which are almost always mismatched or replaced). Overall, the set shows very-good collectors grade condition. The box has some glue repairs on the partition joints, and oil staining to the blue velvet interior. The cap tin includes 21 caps. The revolver itself shows very-good cosmetic and mechanical condition, boasting excellent condition walnut grips, which maintain almost all of the factory varnish finish, the matching cylinder shows the correct roll engraved stagecoach holdup scene, the brass trigger guard and the grip-strap show a mellow mustard yellow patina, and retain some original silver plate, with no evidence of cleaning or polishing, and an octagon barrel which retains nice aged blue patina. The revolver functions with a tight action, with strong springs. All-in-all, this revolver is worthy of the finest Colt or early Western Frontier Firearms collections. The revolver qualifies as an Antique Hand Gun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 71010.
