This is a nice Indian Reservation period sheath and trade knife from the Central Plains Indians. The trade knife exhibits a late 1800’s typical example with two piece hardwood grip scales having metal tack studs and wrapped in old buckskin. The sheath is from the 20th Century and shows old brown leather suede hide and has a belt loop on the top and geometric beadwork on the front. The beadwork is a loose geometric depiction of the Thunderbird, a powerful spiritual being to the Central Plains region tribes. The beads are all glass trade seed beads showing a chalk white background with blue and red pattern. The trade knife measures 12 ½ inches in length and the sheath is 20 inches long without the top strap.
