This is a wonderful circa 1890-1900 Central Plains region skullcracker (skull-cracker) war club. The piece is from a collection of Indian materials that originated in Kansas and is attributed to the Osage or Pawnee Native American Indians. The large stone head is hand-carved from white steatite stone and measures 7”W. There are some expected stress cracks and nicks from age and use, but overall the piece displays very well. The haft is covered entirely in reservation-period beaded glass trade seeds of chalk white, green, semi-transparent green, red, and translucent. There are two wasp of horsetail hair and two dew claws tied onto the bottom end of the haft. The piece measures overall 21.5”L.
