For your consideration are a collection of four atlas maps of Montana circa 1897, and a map of Idaho and South Dakota on the reverse of two of the Montana maps. In this lot there are two Century Atlas Montana maps, copyright 1897 by The Century Co, New York. These maps are numbered 49. and 107. The size of type on these maps indicates relative importance of places, and the contour lines show elevations in feet of above sea level. One of these maps shows a bright yellow tint with black lines and blue lakes, and clearly shows county line divisions. The other map shows an orange tint highlighting Montana. Also in this lot is an Atlas of the World map of Montana and an unmarked map of Montana. Both of these maps show the counties highlighted in different colors. The Atlas of the World map show the territory between Butte and Helena close up in the lower left corner. This map shows counties, chief cities, and populations at the time. On the back of these maps is a similar map of Idaho and South Dakota. These show in good condition for their age, and have been well preserved with no obvious signs of damage. The maps measure approximately 11"x14" and 11.5"x16.5"
