This is a striking, original oil on canvas of western stagecoach drivers by noted artist Charles Garo Tatossian (1925-2016). The painting is signed in the bottom right, “GARO” and the bottom of the frame is marked, “Charles Garo”. A Canadian and Armenian artist, Charles Garo Tatossian was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1925. Considered a prodigy at the age of ten years, Garo was invited to the Palace in Egypt to execute the portrait of King Farouk. He went on to perfect his artistic talent at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1960, Garo immigrated to Canada and started his own television series, "Le Plaisir de Peindre," from 1980 to 1999. Garo is distinguished for his portraits and commissioned work. He is known for having painted the portraits of Josephine Baker, King Faruk of Egypt and other celebrities of his time. Garo’s Murals and Frescos can be found in a multitude of Churches both in Alexandria, Egypt and throughout Quebec. This painting shows an Old West Stagecoach with the bandana wearing driver seating in the front, hat showing worst for wear and behind him a cowboy guard with his Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle in hand. The condition of this oil on canvas shows no wear marks with a well preserved frame with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of the framed oil on canvas are 26 5/8"L x 22 5/8"W and the visible artwork measures 19 1/2"L x 15 1/2"W.*
