Featured in this lot is a Charles M. Russell two (2) book collection, "The Charles M. Russell Book" by Harold McCracken First Edition 1957, and "Charles M. Russell" by Frederic G. Renner Signed revised edition 1974. "The Charles M. Russell Book" is A Biography and Picture Gallery Of The Famous Cowboy Artist With 35 Full Color Illustrations And More More Than 150 Black And White Reproductions by Harold McCracken. "Charles M. Russell" is a book of the Paintings, Drawings, and Sculptures of Charles M. Russell on display in the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art, Fort Worth, Texas. Charles Marion Russell, also known as C. M. Russell, Charlie Russell, and "Kid" Russell, was an American artist of the American Old West. He created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscapes set in the western United States and in Alberta, Canada, in addition to bronze sculptures. He was known as "the cowboy artist" and was also a storyteller and author. He became an advocate for Native Americans in the west, supporting the bid by landless Chippewa to have a reservation established for them in Montana. In 1916, Congress passed legislation to create the Rocky Boy Reservation. The C. M. Russell Museum Complex in Great Falls, Montana houses more than 2,000 Russell artworks, personal objects, and artifacts. Other major collections are held at the Montana Historical Society in Helena, Montana, the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, the Sid Richardson Museum in Fort Worth, Texas as well as the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art (now the Amon G. Carter Museum of American Art). In 1955, Russell was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. These two very fine condition books are a must have for any true western history aficionado.
