For your consideration are two Charles S. Chapman locomotive / travel prints from the mid 1900s. Charles S. Chapman was born in Morristown, New York, one of three sons of a prominent Morristown banker. As a child he taught himself to draw and spent much of his time in that activity. He attended the Pratt Institute, after which he studied briefly at William Merritt Chase's School of Art in New York. The first print in this lot shows a train moving along the tracks as faint images of various ways of traveling can be seen in the sky such as horse drawn carriages, wagons, steam cars and an airplane. A car can be seen on the road beside the train and just slightly ahead. The artist's signature can be seen in the bottom right hand corner reading, "Charles S. Chapman". The second print shows a more birds eye view of a train moving along the tracks as a large pillar of smoke comes out of the engine car. The train is traveling through a small town and between the hills as the blue sky and sun shine down onto the scene. The artist's signature can be seen in the bottom right hand corner reading, "Charles S. Chapman". The pieces show good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted. They are set in bronze colored frames. The visible artwork measures 12 3/4" L x 25 1/8" W, while the entire piece measures 13 1/2" L x 25 7/8" W x 7/8" D. They have a collective weight of 8 pounds.
