Offered in this lot we have a Charlie M. Russell framed print titled "The Surprise Attack". The original was painted in 1898 by well known western painter Charles Russell. Russell was a well known American artist known for his depictions of life in the wild west as well as landscape scenes. The print shows a group of eight cowboys on horse back being pursued by a group of Native Americans with one of the riders being shot off his horse. The scene shows the cowboys riding into open plains with the Native Americans on a hill in the background shooting at the group. The piece is signed in the bottom left side reading "C.M. Russell 1898" and marked "Historical Society of Montana All Rights Reserved - Litho in -" on the bottom right. The print is set into a light colored oak frame with a tag in the back reading "The Surprise Attack By Charles M. Russell". The piece shows good condition overall with some light wear across the frame. The frame measures 16 1/2" wide by 11 1/2" tall with the print measuring 13" wide by 8" tall.
