For your consideration is this original graphite drawing done by Chebon Dacon (1946-Present) in 1984. Dacon was born in 1946 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and was a self-taught artist of Muscogee (Creek) descent. Dacon's artistic journey is famous for its perseverance; after knee injuries destroyed his hopes for a professional football career at the University of Oklahoma, he turned to art, where he received widespread praise. His works, which feature precise pencil sketches and well painted watercolors, oils, and acrylics, have been exhibited abroad and are highly sought after in the United States. In appreciation of his contributions to art and culture, Dacon was inducted into the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Hall of Fame in 2015. The piece shows a Native American woman looking at decorative and functional Native pottery as she wears a large trade blanket. It is signed in the bottom left reading, "Chebon 1984" and matted once within the frame with black matting paper. It is set in a wood frame with small floral designs carved in the corners of the frame. It shows good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage is noted. The visible artwork measures 11 1/2" L x 8 3/8" L, while the entire piece measures 15 3/8" L x 12 3/8" W x 1" D. It weighs 2 pounds and 6 ounces.
