For your consideration are two (2) signed Ron Mitchell original lithographs. Award winning artist Ron Mitchell (b. 1943), a member of the Cherokee Nation, has been a fixture around Native American art shows for decades, he spent many summers with his Cherokee grandmother whose stories and legends of the Cherokee people inspired him and still influences his art today.
One resembles his other works depicting themes of the Trail of Tears, leaving harsh environments; this one has a protective "spirit warrior" hovering above the travelers as they travel into a dark forest. The last traveler is an elderly woman who is looking up at the "spirit warrior" though the rest of the travelers have their heads down and don't see him. The imagery is reminiscent of how the elderly are often viewed in Native American cultures as having a special wisdom and insight. The second lithograph is of a Native American warrior with rifle in hand, standing at the edge of a body of water, either mountain lake or river, looking across the water; watching for danger or a path to safety.
Majestic snow-capped mountains are in the background, the dark forests, the passing clouds and late afternoon sky give the impression that it's Autumn and Winter survival preparations may be on his mind.
Both pieces are in excellent condition, mounted in shadowbox style matting, each piece measures 10"H x 8"W
