This is a wonderful fourth-quarter of the 19th Century Indian tanned hide knife sheath with original beadwork from the Cheyenne Native American Indians. This amazing circa 1880-1890's sheath shows an Indian tanned hide construction with sewing using old trade thread and adorned with all period correct glass trade cen seed beads in a geometric pattern typical of the Cheyenne, including an hour glass, crosses, and a linear border in colors of medium blue, red white heart, cobalt, and medium greasy green. The piece shows some slight bead loss across the front and most of the outside fancy beaded border shows loss from honest age and use. The back is bare of beadwork, typical of belt worn sheaths and a small crack/hole has appeared over time. The hide is partially supple, but is hardening with age. This is truly a wonderful example. Measures overall 8" L by 2.75" W.
