The lot features an early original authentic set of Cheyenne Native American Indian beaded moccasins dating to circa late 19th Century. These 1870-1890 moccasins would have been worn by a young warrior, large child, or woman. The set shows a parfleche rawhide sole with Indian tanned hide construction with both sinew and trade thread sewing. The top of each moccasin shows two rows of geometric rectangular traditional beadwork done in all period correct glass trade seed beads. The beads show a red white heart, chalk white, sky padre blue, greasy butterscotch yellow and dark blue. The moccasins show slight cracking, some stiffining to the leather and overall wear indicative of their nearly 125-150 year old age. The set also shows a unique long tongue, a wonderful addition. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The moccasins measure 8 1/4 inches in length by 3 1/4 inches wide by 3 inches high at the ankle.
