The lot features a thick Indian tanned Buffalo hide with traditional beadwork from the Cheyenne Native American Indians of the Indian Reservation Era. The piece is constructed of thick Indian tanned Great American Buffalo Bison hide with sinew sewn early glass trade seed beads in a traditional geometric linear pattern and iconic Cheyenne tabs. The beads include colors of greasy yellow, greasy Cheyenne pink white hearts, cobalt, greasy white, medium green, blue, and semi-transparent red. The piece shows many rolled tin jingle dangle cones tied to Indian hide with red and yellow dyed horse tail hair fringes. The bag dates to the Indian Reservation Period, which can loosely be dated to circa 1890-1950’s. The bag has a supple soft hide and little-to-no bead loss and includes original Indian hide top strap and fringes. The piece is stuffed with stripped whicker and the bag displays very well. Provenance: From a private museum collection in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France. The piece measures 39” L from the top of the strap to the bottom of the fringes. The bag itself is 17” W by 11” H.
