Offered in this lot are volumes one and two of "Cheyenne Indians: Their History and Ways of Life" by George Bird Grinnell. The book provides a comprehensive history and explanation of the tribe, including their customs, rituals, beliefs, etc. George Bird Grinnell was a zoologist by training and an anthropologist by inclination. He accompanied Custer's Black Hills expedition as a naturalist in 1874, and from that time until his death in 1938, was closely associated with the Cheyenne and other Plains tribes. The books are bound in their original red cloth and each has several black and white illustrations, including a map in the back of Volume I. The books came from the Whitehall High School Library and are marked as "Discarded". The books show good condition. Each one measures 6" x 9" x 1 1/2".
