Offered in this lot is a Chief Joseph oil on canvas painting by Linda Compton, 1986. The painting depicts Chief Joseph with cliff side waterfalls in the background. Chief Joseph gained notoriety as he famously led the Nez Perce in a fighting retreat against the U.S. government. The government was trying to put the Native Americans on reservations. The Nez Perce successfully evaded the government soldiers for three months in 1877 before finally surrendering. This painting is in good condition overall. The piece measures 25" wide by 31 1/4" tall.
