Featured in this lot is this Chilkat, Northwest Coast "Bear Mother" dancing robe. The Bear Mother blanket is decorated with a stylized Chilkat face in the center (Larger), which represents Konankada's wife by the enlarged lower lip that represents a lip labret. Among the peoples of the Northwest Coast was a tradition of highly complex and innovative weaving called the Chilkat Blanket. The condition of this dancing blanket is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this dancing blanket are 69" x 48".
