For your consideration is a Chinese Black Lacquer Tea Table & Six (6) Nesting Stools. Vintage 1970s Chinese oval black lacquered coffee table with six nesting stools. The table has multiple Chinese floral and avian scenes with raised bone and mother-of-pearl. Hand-carved imagery on the table and nesting stools rolled sides. The table and nesting stools have carved claw feet. The stools are solid wood and sturdy to sit on, and store nicely under the table. The use of lacquer in China goes back traditionally to legendary times. A late Ming manuscript, the Xiushilu, states that it was first employed for writing on bamboo slips, then for utensils for food, made of black lacquer, and subsequently for vessels for ceremonial use, of black with red interiors. is a durable finishing material used to create distinctive art objects and furnishings. This type of lacquer is made from the sap of several closely-related species of tree, but primarily from one specific variety, known colloquially as the "lacquer tree" or "varnish tree". Objects can be coated with Chinese lacquer for simple protection and wear from the elements. In other cases, multiple layers of lacquer are applied to a given object, and coloring and carving techniques are used to create extremely detailed and precious works of art. Manufactured by Frank Yuen & Co. LTD. of Kowloon, Hong Kong which closed their doors in 1990, this tea table and its matching nesting stools are in very nice condition. One nesting stool has some lacquer fading on the top, otherwise no other obvious marring noted. Tea table measures 32"W x 44"L x 20.5"H, 2 square nesting stools measure 11.5"W x 14.5"L x 12.5"H, and the curved triangle nesting stools measure 12.5"W x 12.5"L x 12.5"H
