For your consideration is a Vintage Chinese Carved Lacquerware, Jewelry Box and Vase. One of China's traditional arts and crafts with a history of longstanding, carved lacquerware originated in the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A. D.) and has been handed down and developedby the working people from generation to generation. Multifarious in kind and exquisite in workmanship, carved lacquer is known for its unique style characterized by elegant modelling, beautiful figuration and lustrous colour. This lacquerware vase was made in Peking (presently known as Beijing), China, in 1934 according to paper tag affixed to base, three years prior to the full-scale invasion by Japan immediately prior to the beginning of World War II. An exceptional piece of Chinese artistry, the vase features a continuous carved frieze of figures and landscape with lotus and lappet borders over a bronze body. The jewelry box features a distinctive checkerboard background design on the sides found on the body of much Chinese lacquerware, the top of the lid features a carved bone image of an elderly man surrounded by carved lacquer floral field. The Chinese lacquerware vase is in nice condition, small piece of lacquer missing at the base edge, no other damage observed. Measures 6"W x 10"H x 3"D, weight is 1lb, 2oz. The Chinese lacquerware jewelry box is in nice condition, slight scuffing to edges, base has lacquer flaking, no other damage noted. Measures 4.5"W x 6"L x 2"D, weight is 14 oz.
