For your consideration is this Chinese lacquered guardian Foo Dog storage box, circa early 1900's. The box shows Yumu elm construction and a red lacquered box with a painted Foo Dog on the front of the box. Guardian lions, also known as komainu, shishi, or foo dogs, are intimidating, mythical, lion-like creatures seen across a breadth of art forms, ranging from architecture to tattoos. The condition of this box is fair; it shows some chipping to the lacquer on top and to some of the painted face of the storage box. The measurements of this box are 12 3/4" x 16 3/4" x 13 1/2".
