This is a fantastic hand carved and painted Chinese cabinet with an outstanding Qing Dynasty style and early to vintage age. The piece is nearly identical to other circa 19th Century examples and has the construction and patina to indicate an early age. One of the more interesting features of this cabinet is the wax customs seal on the back showing authentic import from China. This cabinet is square-cornered with two doors, and features hand-carved high relief sculpture, beautifully decorated with fauna imagery. The cabinet shows original black and red paint on the high relief carving. Across the top trim piece, held by square head iron nail, are four scenes. Left to right the scenes are of, a dragon the traditional symbol of good luck, the center two are of priests, and the last one is of a horse which means prosperity. The front of the cabinet has four panels with lattice and floral carvings. The center two panels are on wood carved hinges with Iron nails. The two panels have wrought iron rings for opening and locking. The doors open into a one shelved storage area. Along each side of the doors are three panels with with images of men and lotus. Across the bottom are three drawers with iron pull rings and high relief carvings of Lotus flowers. Dramatic oversize legs are on the front two corners with carved scrolling on the feet and across the bottom of the cabinet. The back of the cabinet shows hand hewed slats. The cabinet measures 67 1/2" tall X 63 1/2" wide (68 1/2" across from foot to foot) and 24" deep. This is a showcase example of Chinese furniture distinguished by extremely well constructed joinery. This is a unique opportunity for a collector of fine antique furniture to adorn either an office or home.
