This is a wonderful beaded hide headdress with unique feather top from the Chippewa Ojibwe Native American Indians of Leech Lake, Minnesota. The piece is said to date to circa early 1900’s and shows a Indian brain tanned Moose hide construction with felt lining having old rooster and chicken feathers along the top and artful glass trade seed beadwork. The beadwork has a wonderful, typical Ojibwe floral whimsical pattern. The beadwork shows chalk white, red white hearts, Cheyenne pink, green, greasy blue, lilac, blue and red. The headdress or bonnet would have been worn for early reservation ceremonial dances and the piece shows a nice condition. Measures overall 8 inches high and 20 inches in circumference.
