Featured in this lot is a Rare Chiricahua Cattle Company Cowboys Photograph, circa 1870s to 1885. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The photograph displays cowboys in a corral with cattle, horses and barns. The background slopes upwards to a tree line. In the foreground are a ranch family. Also included is a copy of the "Chiricahua Cattle Company Incorporated April 25, 1885 Tombstone, A. T." stamp. Headquarters was where Turkey Creek runs down out of the Chiricahua Mountains near the site where gunfighter Johnny Ringo’s body was found three years earlier. One of the most revered names in the history of the cattle industry in Arizona is the Chiricahua Cattle Company or, as it was known by its brand, the CCC Outfit. The Chiricahua Cattle Company (CCC), founded in the 1870s in Arizona, was a prominent, large-scale corporate ranch and a significant player in the region's cattle industry and the rise of corporate ranching in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for having tens of thousands of head of cattle and vast acreage, it was one of the major cattle operations, alongside the Erie Cattle Company, in the Sulphur Springs Valley. The CCC was characterized by its massive scale, requiring enormous annual roundups. At its peak, the company managed tens of thousands of cattle, including 45,000 head at one point, and operated on a vast scale, stretching across a large territory in Arizona. The CCC was a major force in the transition from individual ranches to corporate operations, driven by out-of-state investors. The combined property and water rights created an empire of 1.6 million acres of grazing land that extended north into Graham County that would rank it among Arizona’s largest cattle ranches. CCC cattle ranged over an area 35 miles wide and 75 miles long. Tombstone Western Heritage Museum code handwritten on reverse, "P113". The photograph is in a preserved condition, age tanning observed, mounted onto a mat board. Visible image measures 4.5"W x 7.625"L, board is 6.75"W x 9.875"L. Combined weight is U6.
