This is an early, circa 1860 Great Lakes Woodlands loom-beaded sash. The piece shows a classic Great Lakes pattern loom beaded technique, which is a practice of weaving beads with trade thread to incorporate complex patterns that extend along both sides. This example shows beautifully intricate patterns showing all 19th-century period correct glass trade seed beads in colors of greasy yellow, red white heart, black, chalk white, light blue, Cheyenne pink, and semi-transparent medium green (teal). Both ends show early deep red trade yarn with a braided design. The beadwork shows some loss. Provenance: Found to be an authentic Great Lakes 1860 example by the experts at Jackson's; from a private Native American collection in California. Measures overall 64-inches long by 4 1/8-inches wide.
