This is a beautiful and artful circa 1860 Sioux black stone inlaid pipe and stem from the Lakota Sioux of South Dakota collected from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation; from the ex-Ted Levy and Mike Kokin Sherwoods Spirit of America collections. This is a very attractive piece with no apparent cracks, breaks or repairs and shows hand-carved black Minnesota steatite pipe stone inlaid with silver pewter with a geometric design and inlaid with red catlinite pipestone as well. A truly stunning “T” pipe with beveled smoking connection end with tapering rounded “T” bowl having a tapered blade like and tall cylindrical bowl finish with amazing inlay. The bowl has rich deep patina from honest age and use. The bowl has an old round, ash wood stem that is finished with extensive hot file branding and a nice, shiny patina also from honest age and use. A fine Indian Wars era pipe in well preserved condition. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Ted Levy of Santa Rosa, California and the ex-collection of Mike Kokin from Sherwoods Spirit of America Santa Fe, New Mexico. The bowl is 7-inches long by 3.75-inches tall. Stem is 18.5-inches long. Together the set is 24-inches in length.
