Featured in this lot are Antique Civil War Era Colt and Smith & Wesson Bullet Molds (3), circa 1850s-1870s. The respective calibers are .31, .44 and .38. The Colt bullet molds of .31 and .44 calibers are the standard two-cavity mold casting one spherical and one conical bullet which accompanied their famous percussion (black powder) revolvers. These tools allowed soldiers, frontiersmen, and shooters to cast their own lead ammunition in remote areas where supply lines were unreliable. Both are logo stamped on the top of the pivoting sprue cutter, "Colt's Patent". The Smith & Wesson mold was typically sold as part of a complete reloading kit for early S&W top-break revolvers. S&W molds are famous for dual-purpose target configurations. For instance, a S&W mold will often feature a split cavity that casts one conical bullet with a grease groove alongside one round ball for gallery or practice loads. The molds are cast iron, in nice condition, oxidation and pitting consistent with age and use. Respective measurements are1.125"W x 4.75"L x .875"D, 1.125"W x 5"L x 1"D, 1.125"W x 4.75"L x .875"D. Collective weight is 1lb.
