Included in this lot is an American Flask & Cap Company Civil War Era Brass & Leather Shot Pouch, circa 1860-1865. Shot pouches like this were used to carry a hunter’s supply of lead shot. These containers were remarkably similar to powder flasks and were often made by flask manufacturers. Flask makers typically used the same imagery found on flasks to decorate their pouches. This pouch was made by the American Flask & Cap Co., a Waterbury, Connecticut business that primarily made powder flasks. This pouch features embossed artwork on the leather body of this beautiful flask is wonderful. The stamped motif, observed on both sides of the pouch, features a hunting dog in the stand ready position under a leafy tree within a circular medallion. The raised pattern remains crisp and clear, the leather has no cracks or holes. The body is stamped 2 1/2 lbs. The brass measure spout remains functional and is stamped AM FLASK & CAP CO. A deep and rich patina covers the leather. Measures 3"W x 7.75"L, weight U6 oz.
