Offered in this lot is a collection of fourteen copal/African amber beads. Copal is a name given to tree resin, particularly the aromatic resins from the copal tree. These necklaces have strong social significance and aesthetic appeal within the Moroccan Berber tribes. Amber, including young amber (copal), is believed to have metaphysical properties, protecting the wearer from harm and bringing enlightenment, making it a valuable trade bead. There are seven oval beads measuring an average of 7/8" X ¾”, two smaller clear oval beads measuring 3/4" X 1/2", and a small oval bead measuring 1/2" X 3/8". There are four cylinder beads, two clear and two opaque, measuring 7/8" X 1/2". These beads are in very good condition.
