Included in this lot is a collection of three Papago Indian wheat stitch baskets. The Papago Tohono O'odham (People of the Desert) are located in Arizona and are known for their weaving skills. These baskets feature tight weaving of yucca and bear grass. All three of these baskets are coiled and woven into a traditional pattern of simplicity. The smallest basket measures 4 1/2" by 1 1/2"; the medium sized piece measures 6 5/8" by 1"; and the largest piece measures 8" by 2".
