Featured in this lot are two Collector's Edition art books on renowned French artists, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot (1796-1875) and Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) circa 1983 and 1984. The first book titled, "G. Courbet" by Bruno Foucart gives an in-depth look into the traditional view of Courbet as a man whose rural peasant background endowed him with a crude but ill-spoilt eye. He portrays Courbet as a self-aware individual who is informed about his time's society and the traditions of his craft. Courbet's paintings convey spiritual and political implications, according to the author. The book is bound in genuine leather that has been dyed green and shows the artists name on the front in gold gilt lettering. The edges of the pages are adorned with gold gilt as well. The second book, "Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot" with text by Madeleine Hours gives an insight into the artists life and his works. Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, or simply Camille Corot, was a French landscape and portrait painter as well as a printmaker in etching. A pivotal figure in landscape painting, his vast output simultaneously referenced the Neo-Classical tradition and anticipated the plein-air innovations of Impressionism. This Collectors Edition book is bound in genuine leather that has been dyed with a navy blue color, showing the artists name in gold gilt lettering. The edges of the pages are adorned with gold gilt as well. Both books show good condition overall with little to no wear present. The books measure 12 1/4" L x 9 1/16" W x 3/4" D and have a collective weight of 4 pounds and 12 ounces.
