For sale in this lot is a Military issue Colt Single Action Army revolver, chambered for .45 Colt. The Artillery Model was issued to infantry, light artillery, volunteer cavalry, and other troops, because the standard issue .38 caliber Colt M1892 double-action revolver was lacking in stopping power. The artillery model can be distinguished by the "US" stamped on the frame, "R.A.C." inspectors cartouche of Rinaldo A. Carr on the butt of the grip, and bottom of the frame, "HN" cartouche on the cylinder, and mismatched parts from the factory, as most artillery models were re-issued firearms, manufactured with good parts from surviving firearms. Additionally, the revolver is marked with correct roll stamping, reading; "PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871" over "JULY 2. 72. JAN. 19. 75" on the left side of the frame, and "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. Co HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." on the top of the barrel. Other indication of the military issue artillery model include the .45 Colt chambering, and 5 1/2" barrel. Overall, the revolver shows good condition, with patina indicative of age, and use. The revolver shows good blueing on the barrel, and trigger guard, but has heavy wear on the underlug cartridge extractor from holster wear. The revolver also shows good mechanical condition, with good timing of the single action, tight cylinder lock-up, and a good overall bore, which shows strong rifling, with some scattered pitting. The serial number on the frame of the revolver dates the piece to 1891 - Qualifying the revolver as an Antique Handgun, not requiring FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 136456.
