Included in this lot is a Black Powder Signature Series Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with 4” octagon barrel chambered in .32 caliber and calibrating the 150th Anniversary of the Gold Rush. A superb example five shot revolver that found favor with lawmen and outlaws alike who carried a small back-up revolver. It also found immediate acceptance by ladies of the evening, gamblers, well-heeled gentlemen, Civil War officers and enlisted men as personal weapons. Many of these also saw service in the gold fields of California. The Model 1849 was one of Colt’s most popular designs that was large enough for aimed fire, yet small enough to conceal in a waistband or an unobtrusive holster. Matching serial numbers on the frame, trigger guard, barrel, wedge, rammer and cylinder. The cylinder displays five etched medallions each depicting a figure or tool from the gold rush era and displays a gold finish along with the trigger guard and grip tang. The left wooden grip is set with a medallion depicting a man panning for gold with the edge marked "1849 GOLD RUSH 1999 150th ANNIVERSARY". The side of the octagonal barrel is marked in gold lettering reading "150th ANNIVERSARY GOLD RUSH". The barrel is correctly marked in the two-line style “ADDRESS COL. SAM COLT over NEW-YORK CITY.” along with “COLT’S PATENT” on the left side of the frame. Nice overall mint blue on the barrel with exceptional case colored frame, walnut grips. The revolver comes with its Signature series Colt Black Powder box. Serial Number: 342988.
