Colt Police Positive Special in scarce and desirable .32-20 caliber. This is a near mint condition example with serial number 253963 indicating a manufacture date of 1922. The Police Positive Special was a double action revolver that could be fired by pulling back the hammer to the full cock position for slow aimed fire (single action) or by simply pulling the trigger which would revolve the cylinder and cock/release the hammer for fast firing (double action). Most of this model were chambered for the popular and common .38 Special cartridge with a much lesser production chambered in .32-20. This cartridge was often chosen by outdoors men who paired their handgun calibers with a rifle or carbine of the same caliber, such as a Winchester Model 1892 or Marlin Model 1894. As such, when encountered today, those so chambered usually exhibit excessive wear and use from field carry. Typically, a homeowner wanting a Colt for protection would purchase the .38 Special version and leave it in a bedside drawer and therefore are more frequently found in higher states of condition than the .32-20 version made for outdoor use. This example exhibits nearly all of the factory polished blue finish that would require close examination to find any wear at all. It displays all the correct sharp Colt markings including the iconic Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame and the barrel address and last patent date of 1905 on the barrel top. The hammer correctly shows fire blue on the top and rear portion with polished sides along with a fire blued trigger. The left side of the barrel has the Police Positive Special model marking along with “32-20 W.C.F.” (Winchester Center Fire) caliber marking. The hard rubber factory Colt marked grips are, like the rest of the revolver, in superb condition and show no wear. The action is crisp with tight cylinder lock-up and the bore is bright with some light corrosion that may brush out. The front sight on the 5” barrel has not been altered. In all, a stunning 102 year old Colt in truly remarkable condition! The revolver weighs 1lbs 8oz. Serial Number: 253963. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
