Included in this lot is a Colt Single Action Army revolver with Colt factory letter. The Colt letter describes the revolver as: "Caliber: 45/c", Barrel Length: Not Listed, and "Finish: Blue". The Type of stocks is not listed. The letter states that the revolver was shipped to The United States Government Inspector at Colt Plant, on December 11, 1880. The shipment contained 200 firearms. This revolver utilizes a 7 ½” barrel marked with COLT'S PT F. A. MFG Co. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A., though it is somewhat hard to read. The one piece walnut grips are in fair condition showings some loss to the original varnish finish. "45 Cal" is stamped on the left of the frame. The assembly number "808" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the inspector’s mark D.F.C. and “P”. The frame is additionally stamped with the D.F.C. inspector mark and the firearms serial number. The frame, trigger guard, and back strap all show matching serial numbers and the cylinder has a stamped “P” and partial serial number. The revolver has a full nickel-plated finish with niter-blue screws and casehardened cylinder pin. Only scouts were supplied with nickel plated guns, as most ignored the routine maintenance requirements. Nickel was more forgiving of missed cleanings and care. It also should be noted that a full blooded Indian Scout would not have been able to purchase a new revolver from a gun shop due to his heritage. This revolver has a manufacture date of 1880. Serial Number: 60947. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
