Featured in this lot is this "Mwana Pwo" Tchokwe clay ceremonial mask from the Congo/ Angora circa 19th century. The mask features a wonderfully and professionally crafted clay construction that shows the likeness of the effigy of a member of the royal court. There masks and other artifacts and objects, which the Chokwe are well known for, were produced to celebrate and validate the royal court. The condition of this African mask is well preserved for its age with a single chip out of the top back of the mask. The measurements of this mask are 6" x 4 5/8" x 2 1/4". The collective weight of this mask is 14oz.
