For your consideration is this framed print of Harry Jaffee's famous painting "Consolidated Catalina" circa 1930-40s. Harry Jaffee is the brother to renowned comedic artist, Al Jaffee (1921-2023), a prominent illustrator for Mad Magazine, Stan Lee, Playboy and more. It was Harry, not Al, who brought the Jaffee family's first taste of success in the art world. Drawing and painting a series of sleek, technically accurate images of Curtiss Helldivers, Martin Mariners, Lockheed P-38s, and other warplanes, Harry capitalized on the public's growing fascination with military aircraft. He formed an assembly line with his brothers Al, David, Bernard, and Al's friend Wolfie after finding many buyers at local department stores. The impromptu studio first transferred Harry's original drawing to specialized blue paper, then gradually added additional colors. Harry signed the art pieces, "Jaffée". The print shows the Catalina pane in a slight dive as it soars through the sky. It shows a French flag painted on the tailwing with the plane showing colors of blue, beige, black, grey and white. The bottom right shows the title reading, "Consolidated Catalina" and Harry's signature reading, "Jaffee". The art is set in a light colored wood frame. The piece shows good condition overall with some slight wear to the frame from its age and years of use but no signs of wear or damage are present on the print. The visible art measures 11 3/8" L x 17 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 13 7/16" L x 19 9/16" W x 1 1/8" D.
