Featured in this lot is this 1980s, Conoco 5 gallon oil can. Continental Oil Company was founded in 1875 in Ogden, Utah. It became part of Standard Oil in 1884 but regained independence in the Standard Oil divestiture of 1911. It was acquired by Marland Oil Company in 1929; however the merged companies operated under the name Continental Oil. The name was changed to Conoco Inc. in 1979. This 5 gallon oil can shows a white, green and red color scheme with the front and the back marked with the triangle logo and reads, "Conoco Super Motor Oil Heavy Duty". The side is marked with facts about the Conoco Super Motor Oil. The top shows a nozzle with two sizes of spouts and a spot for filling the canister up. A swinging wood handle is attached to the top for easy carrying. It shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 11 3/8" L x 11 3/8" W x 16 3/8" H and weighs 3 pounds and 14 ounces.
