Crow Beaded Parfleche Covered Reservation Saddle

This is a fantastic reservation period Crow hide parfleche covered, tacked and beaded saddle from the Crow Native American Indians of the Northern Plains of Montana. The saddle is comprised of carved wood old saddle frame covered in old rawhide parfleche with sinew sewing being covered in red mineral pigment ocher dyed and showing nickel style metal tacking in bands, crosses and circles. The piece has a classic Plateau Indians pattern, documented as being a Crow and Nez Perce example, with one example noted as Southern Plains, having large, rounded, double horns with the front having a unique spike horn at the front, almost exclusively documented on Plateau examples. The top of the horns are both covered in glass trade seed and pony beads in typical Northern Plains geometric pattern. One side has a stroud clothe medallion with multiple point star having a mirror stud at the center and beaded border on the horn. The other horn shows the same greasy green beadwork in the parfleche bordering the horn as well as a triangular beaded drop hanging off with chalk white, red white heart, cobalt, and corn yellow having frilly hide fringes, all done in Indian tanned hide. Unusual and rare piece with Indian Reservation period older age being well kept and preserved over time. Measures overall 17.5”H by 26”L by 11”W.
